  3. Mongruel Assualt Pack 5 Star Review

One of my favorite purchases from ITC designs. I have never had a single problem until a slight crack appeared in one of the buckles. It was easily fixed with some plastic glue. Other than that my Packs have literally been ran over by a truck without a single scratch. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase another.

  4. Mongruel #2 5 Star Review

I liked my first Mongruel so much, I ordered a 2nd one, but this time in Multi-Cam. My laptop fits in it perfectly, and it is much more stylish than a black computer bag.

  5. Mongruel with MTAK 5 Star Review

Posted by on Aug 17th 2016

This is a review of my Mongruel and MTAK, which I took on a recent fishing expedition to Nosara, Costa Rica.
I found that the Mongruel holds everything you need and still fits easily under an airline seat. The generous amount of velcro-type loop panels not only allows for personalization, it also greatly aids with organization. For example, I used morale patches to secure pre-made fishing leaders to the outside, as well as my spare sunglasses inside, near the top.
The top grab handle lets you easily retrieve it from, and lug it around in, tight spaces. Of course, wearing it as a backpack worked flawlessly. For longer hauls, crossing the shoulder straps to the opposite attachment points eliminates the need for a chest cinch or waist strap.
I had no need for a hydration bladder on this trip, so I used the pocket to carry my paperwork -- standard 8.5 inch paper fits perfectly, and stays out of sight. I clipped a key chain flashlight to the bladder hanger, to illuminate the contents when needed. The capacious external pocket at the back worked well as a temporary trash bag, for wrappers, empty water bottles, waste paper and the like. I found that the pull tabs at both ends of the main zipper were most convenient for holding bandanas and buffs at the ready, which allowed them to dry without humidifying the interior.
The MTAK, mounted seamlessly via MOLLE sticks, appears as integral to the Mongruel. I found that attaching it this way also provides just the right lumbar support for reclining against a 90 degree wall, such as a boat's bulkhead or in an airport terminal.
I used the MTAK as a first aid kit for our crew of 7. Luckily, we didn't need to use much of the bandages, ointments, hydrogen peroxide, witch hazel, eye wash, electrolyte packs, painkillers, or anti-diarrheal, motion-sickness pills, etc. that it holds.
The Mongruel-MTAK combination served me well on this trip. I'm looking forward to the next trip, when I can use its modularity to customize my loadout.
